Rushing water

The remnants of Hurricane Ida dropped just under 5 inches (12.5 cm) of rain in our neck of the woods today, causing flooding, closing roads and spawning tornadoes in eastern Maryland. Amazing.

The rain stopped just before work ended, so I was able to go out and get photos and not get soaked. The Potomac River (pictured; one in extras) was the highest I'd ever seen it, but Wills Creek (in extras) was raging. I had never seen water like that anywhere before. Little creeks in my hometown would turn into rushing water during the monsoon, but they didn't have this kind of power.

Compare today's photos with some I've gotten in the same places on normal days.
