Earth hour
It's 20:40 on Saturday 23 March and I'm 10 minutes into Earth Hour.
Earth Hour is an annual worldwide event where hundreds of millions of people turn off their lights for one hour on the same night, all across the world in a huge, symbolic show of support.
It's run by the WWF and is a way to show that people care about the future of our planet. It's meant to get people to focus on the kind of energy we use in our daily lives. the WWF says that to "create a better future for our planet we need to move away from dirty fossil fuels and onto clean green renewable energy which works with the awesome power of nature, not against it."
I turned off my lights, and not content with just that, have turned off my tv. I wanted to turn off all electrics, but my tea is cooking in my electric oven. Once it's done, I will be electricity free (except my freezer!) My phone will also be going off and I will be enjoying reading my book by candlelight. It's actually quite strange to be sat in the dark and quiet flat. Strange, but not unpleasant! I'll be back at 9.30!
