Knaresborough
We visited Knaresborough today. The castle is a ruin, but is in a commanding position over the River Nidd. But the outstanding feature of the town is the viaduct over the river allowing the Leeds and Thirsk Railway to cross the river. This was completed in 1851, and is the subject of my blip today.
It is a long way down from the town to the river, and a very steep pathway with lots of steps allows access. Once down there is a lovely walkway along the river, and lots of rowboats and punts on the river.
We had a walk along the river, it was very warm indeed, and came to a little community wood which was nice and cool. Ice cream was desired and we found a little cafe. I ordered two '99' cones, and gave one to Bob who then went over to sit down, and I paid. I had to cope with my cone, my wallet, the change, and my camera so I put my camera in my pocket and followed Bob to the seat. The cone was delicious, and afterwards we headed back up the pathway and steps to meet the others and have a cool drink before heading back to the carpark.
But I had lost my camera..... and I realised right away that I had lost it at the ice cream cafe, as my pocket was shallow, and I had intended to transfer it to my bag when I sat down, but neglected to do so.
So Dave and I headed back down to the river, and luckily the man in the cafe recognised me and had realised the camera was mine but we were gone by then. So I luckily retrieved it, but had the long path and steps to climb again. And in the heat. Boy was I exhausted. And very grateful to Dave who had helped me.
Another lovely day, although eventful. Back to the barn for a nice meal and an evening playing cards. Have loaded an extra of Helen and Dave.
