It’s been mainly a travelling day, coming from Crieff to the Point of Sleat. Things didn’t work out quite as simply as we hoped they would, as the A82 was closed for hours by a major accident north of Tyndrum, but luckily we only just got beyond the junction with the road to Connel/Oban when we hit the queue. When we rapidly realised that things were obviously serious, we headed down the road to Connel, and despite our SatNav’s best efforts to send us up the B road along Glen Orchy (which apparently rapidly became gridlocked), we headed all the way down to Connel and over the bridge before that area itself also became gridlocked. It’s a much longer way round to get to Fort William, so we stopped for a coffee at one point. Despite more queues in Fort William, which seems to get busier every time we go near it, the Road to the Isles was pretty quiet and we made decent time to Mallaig and picked up an earlier ferry than expected. This gave me plenty of time at the other end to sort out our return ferry for Monday in the office in Armadale, including getting a refund on an additional single ticket which I had bought. We’ve finally ended up on the mid morning ferry that we wanted from the beginning, but which we couldn’t book online.

After a rest at the hotel, we headed out for a short afternoon at Eilean Iarmain and then round the loop to Tarskavaig and back. A highlight was Dunscaith Castle. We took a walk out there for the castle and the views across to the Cuillin.

Now we’ve just had dinner in the hotel, which was entirely pleasant, although obviously not up to yesterday’s standards. Not much is. But the older I get, the more I can see the benefit in eating in a hotel, where all you have to do, when you’ve finished, is walk upstairs to bed.

As I’ve still got 38 extras left, and most of the rest of the year will be spent at inky stinky work, and over weekends when it is bound to rain, I’ve decided to add a few extras here and there. The blip is the view from our new bedroom on Skye. Pretty good, eh?
