Cromarty
Lovely to be back at the caravan site at Dingwall. Everything is clean and works! No changes for the use of a hairdryer either! That's a first! We so rarely use a site that it's interesting comparing them. The facilities seem to bear little relationship to the cost. We have come across some excellent ones and some real shockers!
Today, a trip to the Black Isle, to the village of Cromarty. The courthouse museum was open and it was very interesting. Lots of information about how hard life has always been for people here, depending on fishing. It's really well designed with plenty of exhibits and also a chance to see and hear, from eye witness accounts of the day, the accounts of court cases and justice system in 1779. Very realistic models!
The village is very attractive, with small white washed houses and little lanes between them. Chatted to a woman knitting a very fine lace shawl, sitting outside her house. We discussed sock knitting and clipping dogs! Lots of clever planting of flowers in the tiny spaces too, even saw hops growing, not a thing I've seen in Scotland before. I think they would struggle to here though.
We left via the tiny car ferry - two cars at a time - over to Nigg. Much quicker, if you are happy to drive on and reverse off. It cuts off a lot of road! Spent the night near Lairg. There were bats flying round the van and owls hooting too! Not something we're used to!
