Jacob

Today's the day ...................... for horns

This is the only picture I took today - and I think it is a Jacob sheep?

The Jacob is a British breed of domestic sheep that combines two characteristics unusual in sheep, namely that it is piebald (dark-coloured with areas of white wool) and it is often polycerate or multi-horned.

The origin of the breed is not known - although there is a widespread belief that it came from the Middle East with biblical references dating back to the Old Testament Book of Genesis.  The earliest record in modern times is in the mid-18th century of a black and white ram and several ewes shipped from Portugal by one George Lucy to his home at Charlecote Park in Warwickshire.  The Jacob was kept for centuries as a 'park sheep' to ornament the large estates of landowners.

In modern times it is reared mainly for wool, meat and skins .....................
