On Hardy
“It’s Far From the Madding Crowd here Enzo” said the Silverback in his I know something you don’t tone.
(Little did he know I’d watched the Thomas Hardy classic with the Sparrow when he was out one night)
“Doesn’t look like Wessex” sez I casually.
We were two hours south of Cable Beach at Barn Hill Station. A cattle station with a campsite and kilometres of deserted beach front.
“I didn’t know you were familiar with Hardy” he said, surprised.
“My great grandad was his sheepdog” said I, on a roll!
He just looked at me with raised eyebrows.
“Oops, pushed it too far” thought I.
