Saltaire

Today we left Malhamdale, but not  the River Aire, as we visited Saltaire, where Titus Salt constructed his enormous textiles mill on the River Aire and built a model industrial village  for his workforce. The village is  now a UNESCO World Heritage Site  and Conservation Area. My blip shows a typical road of houses. Inside the restored mill is a wonderful exhibition of  David Hockney's work (he being a local boy made good),  fantastic  book shop, arts supplies shop, diner, home wares and furniture shop.  We spent several very happy hours browsing in the mill, exploring the streets, and  picnicking in Roberts' park.
Then it was over the moors to Ilkley, in a howling gale, where we stayed  at the Cow and Calf Hotel for the night.
