Smile
But it’s a bittersweet smile.
Sweet, because I was in and out in half an hour, and got away with a scale and polish, two x-rays and a bit of fluoride gel on some weak enamel.
Bitter, because that little lot cost me the neck end of two hundred quid and I was told that my broken back tooth - which doesn’t cause me any problems - will have to come out next time. Apparently, if we leave it any longer, there won’t be enough decent tooth left to get hold of with the pliers, which could cause major problems. And, just to add to the misery, the tooth next to that has a faulty filling and a crack, so needs capping.
Leaving aside my sheer terror at the prospect of the pain I might suffer during all that work, if they can charge £200 for a glorified check up, then I’m even more terrified at the thought of what the cost of that work might be! At least the days should be getting warmer next April, so maybe a reduction in energy costs might offset the bill a bit!
