Knaresborough
A planned trip to Harrogate, half hour on the train. As we were leaving the receptionist was chatting to us (about the broken lift again) and asked our plans for the day and she suggested stopping off in Knaresborough.
We had a wander around Harrogate and, pretty as it is, there wasn’t a lot open. It seems most things stay closed on a Monday. I was hoping to go into Bettys but Mr C wasn’t too willing to queue. We stopped for a hot drink, my hot chocolate was yuk after yesterday’s deliciousness and then back on the train getting off to discover this lovely market town. A walk up to the town, around the castle ruins and back down to walk along the river. Back at the station we had just missed the train and the next one was in an hour. It would have been rude not too enjoy the little bar on the platform to rest our weary legs.
Back in York, Mr C went back to the hotel whilst I shot off to Bettys to buy some goodies. Well if I couldn’t go at least I will get to try some of their goodies. In the evening we went to a restaurant just on the other side of the bridge and where I had the hot chocolate yesterday for a lovely last night meal. We also had one last wander around town after we had eaten and saw Christmas lights being installed.
It’s been a wonderful birthday weekend for me and was a break, if busy, that we needed. We loved York (although I would avoid Saturdays when all the lads n lasses are out on the town) and the people were so, so friendly. We did lots but there is always much more to see and do and would love to visit again.
Extras of Harrogate and knaresborough.
