Horseradish

After three years of trying to grow a root John dug up three earlier, bit of a beast although one was rotten through the centre. We peeled them, grated in the food processor and now have a small amount in the freezer and a smaller box in the fridge - to try in a few days.

According to the Internet to preserve it we add a little salt and some white wine vinegar. When using it at the table: finely chop and add some cream. Any thoughts on how you would use it would be interesting.

It reminded us of John’s mum, all those years ago when first married we would find her in the kitten grating horseradish by hand, eyes streaming ordering me to take a sniff, eghhhh. It gets you in the eyes and throat. I quite like it though. At a distance.

I would like to have told her about today and how the food processor made it all so much easier. She lived to the ripe old age of 96 and aware of the changes in our daily domestic appliances although wary about some of them.
