Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Goodbye old sofas!

No bike this morning - I felt a slight twinge in my left calf, perhaps through over-exertion yesterday - so I took it easy today.

Our ex-neighbour was back at his flat, so he popped in for a coffee and filled us in with his news. New Hong Kongers moving in next month.

I popped down in the car to borrow Christine’s carpet cleaning machine. Dougal went crazy! He can untie triple shoe knots. He has an upset tumtum, and keeps his mum up half the night, but he doesn’t seem to be slowed down during the day.

I then took Archie out to the Links, and popped in to see Pip and his mum. Archie didn’t bark at all when in Pip’s house. Pip is coming to visit us tomorrow while his parents go out for a meal.

We all went out for a walk, it was such a lovely day. And I was tempted at two favourite cafes, but kept going to Kauai. They only have ‘healthy’ cakes, so we bought a couple of scrumptious pastries (oops! the diet…) at Sainsbury’s, and ate them (furtively) with our coffee. The others walked on further, but I came home - that was enough for me (8,980 steps).

Brian came over to get the sofas. We managed to get one outside, and our neighbour then helped. JR disappeared and I was ‘helping’ to lift the second one in to the van. A strapping young chap came by and helped. Good! Brian had a neighbour organised at the other end (round the corner).

Archie is confused, and doesn’t know where to sit.

PS Another warning about the ‘North Water’, which I enthused about yesterday - Episode 4 contains not only quite the worst, most graphic shockingly bloody scene ever, involving a very cold man and a (newly killed, warm) polar bear, but also three murders. Beware!
