Capri morning
Coming to the end of a fabulous week's holiday in Italy. Will back-blip next week. Here is the view from the front of our hotel on Capri, waiting for the shuttle down the crazy road to the port, and a superbly cobweb-clearing 25 minute ferry ride back to our car in Sorrento.
On through the tiny twisty roads to Napkes, and back to the hotel in Ercolano where we started the holiday a week ago. Having ditched the car at the hotel we took the train into Naples. The metro having a massive queue for some reason meant we just walked to our first stop and paid a small fortune to look at one painting that Mr B wanted to see (a Carravagio). Impressive.
Lunch was at Di Matteo as recommended by friends S and L, takeaway fried food that certainly hit the spot. A quick underground tour of Naples, then a brisk walk to the National Museum, where CarbBoy and I flagged early, but Mr B powered on through marbles, mosaics, etc. They had a special gladiator section, which was interesting, and notable (for us) for having 3 skeletons from York.
Naples is as I expected: busy, loaf, fun and a bit intimidating.
Home on the train (after a wobble about maybe having picked the wrong one) for a beer on the terrace, watching the sun slip down over the Bay of Naples while Vesuvius glowers over my left shoulder. Soon, a snack at a wine bar down the road, and a very early night: even with the clocks going back we have an absurdly early start for the journey home.
