Art in the church

It was good to see old friends again today in the first art exhibition in St Saviour’s   church in Bridge of Allan for some years.

We agree there is an urgent need amongst us all post pandemic for some kind of normality. After all we are social creatures.

And churches, whether one is a fully paid up member or not, fulfil a social function in the community, acting as “social glue”.

But this church like so many, faces an uncertain future for it has a dwindling elderly congregation.

One alternative under consideration is to try and make greater use of the newly refurbished building with its freshly painted pristine walls, new central hearing system and a roof repaired at a cost of over £300,000.  Even the old pews have gone to be replaced by comfortable modern chairs.

One suggestion is to encourage its use as a multi purpose arts centre.  After all it is only used for a few hours a week.

Already two other churches in town have amalgamated with the redundant church converted into luxury flats.
