Another Avon river walk
There are many beautiful walks along the river - another one today from near Keynsham eastwards towards Swinford. Here we are by the marina and various back waters - the actual river goes over a weir here, and there is a lovely rushing water sound. There is a red life belt holder in the distance (above the white steps to the boat) which is right next to the weir. Quite a lot of people living permanently on narrow boats here, I know 3, including my old manager from about a decade ago. I remember one time he couldn’t come to work for several days as the river was so flooded he couldn’t get off and reach the bank.
My visitor, one of my oldest friends, and I have had two enjoyable days, walking, playing cards, eating well, and watching Bleak House (BBC 2005) on dvd, which is really brilliant. A proper little holiday. About 40 years ago she and I were the drummer and bass player respectively in a women’s punk band. In some ways we’re so different now, in others, just the same.
