Die Mauer / Public Servce Broadcasting
Much as we were looking forward to seeing Public Service Broadcasting, this evening, we also had a full day in Berlin to make use of, starting with a late and enormous breakfast at Restauration 1840, just 'round the corner from the hotel.
Once we'd finished that - and pretty much filled ourselves up for the day - we walked across to the 'Die Mauer' exhibition. Created by Yadegar Asisi, this enormous picture, which took five years to complete, is housed in a purpose built circular building, and presents a huge panorama that takes in a section of the Berlin Wall and life on either side.
There's a platform four metres off the ground from which this surreal yet wholly accurate depiction of life in a divided Berlin can be viewed and whilst my German wasn't good enough to understand the accompanying narration, it was totally absorbing nonetheless.
And then in the evening we went over to the venue, Hole 44, to see Public Service Broadcasting. Similar to the Liquid Room where we saw The Wedding Present on Wednesday, this was a nice sized venue with a balcony, which we took advantage of.
Once again, the guys from PSB came on stage to play with EERA for the last song of her set, totally discombobulating her by walking on wearing her tour merch. She was so delighted. What a bunch of guys they are.
And this being the European touring version of PSB, it was just the three of them: Wriggleworth on drums and percussion; JF Abraham on bass and flügelhorn; and, of course, J WIllgoose Esq on guitar and keyboards. It was actually quite nice to see their cut-down light show again, reminiscent of the earliest gigs when we saw them. (I have included the obligatory Spitfire shot in my Extras.)
It was really quite see something to experience this album about Berlin - or at least an aspect of it - being performed in the city, especially at such an intimate show.
