Diary of an Edinburgher

Archie and I had our Big Days today - well, his was much much Bigger than mine… An early start for everyone - not just JR. In fact, I left the house before 8am to catch a bus. Sometimes the bus takes far longer than anticipated, but today we shot through town, no hold ups, and I was well early, even allowing for getting lost in the corridors (again).

I had a ‘stress’ ECG, where they make the heart beat faster by injecting some drug into your veins in order to simulate exercise to see what’s actually happening. Amazing technology. Quite a weird feeling though… We’ll see what it shows, but he told me it might not give a resolution, but just next steps…

Btw, I don’t mind sharing my (all too frequent) medical interludes here - this is a diary - and I’m sure many of you have aches and pains that you don’t go on and on about. But rest assured I do not, have not and will not share any of the more embarrassing ones.

Home via the Red Box, rather than stopping in Stockbridge. Haven’t been there for ages, but I was reminded of the superb scones, and fairly decent flat white.

Archie, on the other hand, had a rather more stressful day. The interdigital cyst was cut out and sewn up, and he has a bandage and plastic boot on it till Saturday. He also had his teeth cleaned while he was under anaesthetic, and two small wiggly ones were removed. He’s feeling very sorry for himself, but has now had some soft tinned food, a thorough check of his back garden, and a piddle. I was in the kitchen, and could hear him coming back, scraping the plastic foot on the pavers as it’s rather large - I was reminded of Long John Silver, walking with a wooden leg, for some reason.

He moaned quietly to himself all the way home in the car. Mind you, so did I after paying the bill. No - only kidding - we gave up on dog insurance years ago, preferring to keep our fingers crossed and pay up as needed. I think we’re still ahead, despite this bill.

Archie is at last lying down in front of the fire, snoozing. I’m sure he will feel much better in the morning.
