Storm Arwen
Our Son#1 is visiting from Edinburgh along with our Daughter-in-Law and our Granddog Oona. Oona loves beaches so we arranged to meet them on their way here this afternoon about half-way between Edinburgh and Newcastle: we chose a beach I've never been to before, Cheswick Sands (between Berwick and Lindisfarne). We knew that Storm Arwen was on its way but hoped to get a walk in before it arrived. However by the time we arrived, the wind was already pretty fierce and sleet was blowing almost horizontally. Not to be totally defeated I donned my wet weather gear and walked (quite rapidly!) on my own across the dunes from the car park to get a quick look at the beach (and my blip): needless to say I was the only one on it as you can see in the main photo. (Even Oona refused to go for a walk!) It does look a fabulous beach, though - so we plan to visit it again sometime when the weather is a tad more inclement. There's another view in the extra which certainly shows how the sand was blowing around.
If you look closely at the dark line on the horizon to the right of the picture, I think that's Lindisfarne with the Castle showing through the mist as a slight lump.
Happily we had an uneventful drive back to Newcastle so we're all safe and sound at home (as long as the roof doesn't blow off! - the Met Office has issued a rare red warning of wind in this area tonight).
