“Oldy Worldy”
A Very Special Day - Today our son, my youngest, is twenty-one, legal to now have a beer in the U.S. Last year we travelled to Kinloss in Scotland to be with him, this year Sweden is a bit out of our reach and he’s busy.
The rest of us meanwhile are enjoying a weekend break with Mrs S’s brother Mark.
There is something about East Wittering, quaint isn’t the right word but it’s such a great place. The local council seem to have a good grip on the planners and their applications. When it comes to the houses there is a real eclectic mix of styles and a good ‘vibe’ about the place. I love the wide use of reclaimed materials, timber, brick, doors, windows etc.
Breakfast of hot croissants and even hotter coffee followed a walk along the beach, the tide was high and with the wind blowing from the shore the crests of the waves were held before crashing down onto the shingle. Fantastic scenery, great company made for a great morning, it certainly blew the cobwebs away.
Back at Marks we just relaxed, radio on, reading, chatting and enjoying being together, especially Sam who hadn’t seen her Uncle Mark for two years. We set off for another walk, the same circular route that took in the beach, this time with the tide out. The pebble/shingle beach gives way to sand which curves around from either side of East Wittering. Stretching out in front of us is the Isle of Wight, away to our right the lights of Portsmouth, to the left Brighton.
An evening with no TV, lots of reading, lots of chat and a take-away Chinese. Another early night with a e-reader, the Goodreads people will be impressed, I’ve shot past my fifty-two book target for 2021 and with three weeks to go might make the magic sixty.
