2021 Monday — Forever Friends

This photo is the definition of “Forever Friends.” Mr. Fun & I met Scott & Peggy at Campus By the Sea in summer of 1981. We were all there for family camp on Catalina Island. The week was the start of a story with the two of them and their two very young sons and the two of us and our two children. We could not have predicted the chapters we were going to write.

Words are insufficient to express our love for these two humans. They know more about us than possibly any other humans alive, even more than what our two kids know.

I think life often moves in circles; I’ll explain. Most of us have a number of circles in our life — a circle of family, of work/employment associates, of school pals, of neighbors, of church acquaintances, and then a group (that almost defies definition) — of friends. We each easily move from circle to circle and sometimes the individuals within the circles change. Sometimes circles overlap and sometimes a circle moves to the outer edge of the big circle that all the circles are inside of.

Often Scott & Peg have been in a circle all of their own with just us. We have enjoyed hours and hours and hours together. (A thousand stories belong right here.)

Somehow we all spun out of our circle of 4 several years ago; we got busy in other circles. Today we all found our way back into our circle of 4.

Late this morning we just spent some marvelous moments with them, actually a couple hours. The restaurant was crowded with noisy hungry customers when we arrived, but by the time we made our exit only a few tables were occupied and a peaceful quiet had settled on the entire place . . . perfect for conversing and sipping coffee. We were no where near being through, but we had already used all our time in our booth for 4, our meter had expired, and we needed to all head our separate ways. Isn’t that the way all magical meetings end?

This was a Monday worth writing about. We thank God for friends, and especially for Scott & Peg and a moment to reconnect with them.
