New Years Day

As midnight struck, ushering in 2022, we were taking a short break between sets, having been playing since quarter past nine. Certainly went down a storm with the crowd, who had been dancing and singing along throughout. After everybody had welcomed in the new year, we played a few more numbers before finishing around 12.45. Not too late compared to some gigs we’ve played, and I eventually got home at 2.00am.
Looking at my year end stats from Strava this morning, I realised I’d been neglecting the walking and running for the last three months. Gym attendance was pretty consistent throughout the year - once we’d been allowed back in April - but a combination of foul weather and all the work being done to the house meant I’d barely done any running and even less walking.
Resolved to do something about that, so have signed up to various challenges on the app for this month. I need to do 30 hours of activity, including walking 50km and running a 5K and a 10K, by 31st January. Off to a good start with an hours walk, covering 4K this afternoon. As long as the weather is not completely miserable I will try and get out as often as possible, as well as keeping up with the regular gym sessions.
As well as going for the walk I also took advantage of the - relatively - warm and dry weather today to take down the outside lights. Nothing worse than trying to dry and put away long strings of soaking wet lights, so wasn’t going to pass up this opportunity. We’ll leave the inside decorations up for another few days as it’s not Twelfth Night until Wednesday. They must be down by then though. Nothing to do with superstition - it’s just that the new furniture arrives on Thursday and we need the space!
