Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2022 Friday — Visiting the Doc Again

Here’s the update on Mr. Fun:

(Short Version) Since surgery on Wednesday, December 29th he’s had awful pain in his throat. Now he’s been to Kaiser again and is getting better.

(Long version, for those who like details—that would be no one) — He has not slept for the past two nights and cannot swallow.

We thought it was a complication of having had an air tube down his throat during surgery a week and two days ago. So we headed to Kaiser’s Urgent Care early this morning.

The line of 30 people extended to outside the building, so Mr. Fun sat in the inside warmth and I got in line (one example of two are better than one); then he joined me at the check-in counter.

Urgent Care sent us to the "Head and Neck" department, where he had surgery. The on-call doctor there that we saw this morning (and this past Monday) said this is not a result of the surgery, but that going under anesthesia weakens the immune system, that's probably what happened to Mr. Fun, and there is an infection in his throat.

He was given two injections of antibiotic, one injection of steroid to decrease the swelling in his throat, and a bottle of antibiotic pills to take at home.

When we got home from Kaiser, he had soup (even soup is difficult to swallow). The doctor said that within 24 hours he should be feeling better. Hooray!

(Now for some whining) If this same doctor would have checked further on Monday when he removed the surgery drain tube & bulb and Mr. Fun said that his throat was hurting, or if the surgeon would have returned Mr. Fun's phone call on Wednesday or if the surgeon, when he finally phoned yesterday morning, would have had Mr. Fun come in rather than told him to "be patient and wait," my fun man could be already feeling better. (End of whining.)

What an ordeal!
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
