Avo

Up until the age of sixteen or seventeen, I'd never had an avocado. I'm not sure I'd even seen one. Then I started going out with a girl from Thames Ditton who introduced me to them and, well, it's the love for the fruit that has endured.

I was just thinking then that I was surprised I'd never had one in all the time we were in Hong Kong but maybe they don't grow them in that part of the world. I was going to check but then I got distracted by Wikipedia informing me that the avocado is, "botanically", a large berry!

Back in those heady teenage years, we would enjoy our avocados with Heinz French Dressing - another exotic first for me - but these days I prefer them with some mayonnaise and paprika.
