Coal Mill
This has been blipped before but. I think, from the other side (which shows the concave surface into which the balls would roll). At Cockenzie Power station there were six mills which were used to crush raw coal into the texture of sand, which was termed Pulverised Fuel. This, blown with pre-heated air into the furnaces, was more efficient than burning lump coal.
The power station was demolished in 2015; this sculpture of a bottom grinding ring and balls, represents one of the six crushing mills.
We took a short walk from our coffee stop in Cockenzie House westwards along the John Muir Way on a bright and breezy morning, where hats and gloves were essential, noting flowers on a Bergenia and shorebirds - are these redshank or purple sandpiper in the extra photo 1? Basic shopping at the nearby Lidl store followed, a bar of Toblerone may have fallen into the trolley, along with a couple of boxes of their delicious stollen bites, leftover stock from Christmas but with long use-by dates (which may not be reached).
In the car on the way home I actually turned off The Archers, irritated by the dreadful faux Scottish accent of a character who was apparently totally ignorant of the idea of financial management- such a person may exist in life, surely not in Ambridge.
The day had begun with a view of the setting moon amid a pearly sky, extra 2 cropped down to remove the neighbour's drainpipe.
