FLOWER FRIDAY - A LONE DAFFODIL

It was a bitterly cold and frosty morning - Mr. HCB said the temperature in his greenhouse was -3.5 - so I got myself kitted out in all my warm gear, including my dickie, hat, gloves and fur-lined long coat and went for a walk.  I haven’t been out for sometime and it was quite hard going and I didn’t have Mr. HCB to “jolly” me along as he wanted to potter in the garden and greenhouse.

After a while I realised that there was also a chilly wind and I definitely need to attach something to the index finger on my gloves to wipe my eyes, which kept watering - perhaps a little piece of flanneling, similar to the finger end things they put on gloves so that people can use their mobile phones.

I have a set walk when I go out on my own, which doesn’t take me to isolated places - because in this day and age, you just never know and an older woman on her own, especially holding an iPhone on a selfie stick, might be a target for some unscrupulous person.

I passed by some new houses being built and remembered that just over the road was a grass verge that usually had daffodils growing, and sure enough, I found one - just the one and it was obviously frosted and bent over.  However, as it’s Flower Friday, I thought it fitted the challenge well so here it is.  I have used an app that I’ve had for a long time called PhotoToaster, which has enabled me to put a vignette round the photograph, but you can see how much frost is on it.

One of the young builders looked askance at me when I walked over the grass and bent down to take a photograph, but I’m a proud Blipper and I’m not bothered and besides which, I got what I came out for this morning.

I’m sure many of us know and love the poem by William Wordsworth - you can see it in full here here if you want to read it;  I won't quote the whole poem, but the last two lines are just what I felt when I saw this lone little daffodil this morning:

“...then my heart with pleasure fills,
     and dances with the daffodils.”
William Wordsworth
