Thatch and Palm

This blip, taken in our village this morning, reminded me of a Caribbean island, until you factor in the Cotswold windchill! To be fair, the sunshine did make things here feel a little warmer and there was no doubt that it was lovely to see blue skies and winter sunshine once more.

Today is Australia Day and India’s Republic Day. The next significant date in the UK, after yesterday’s Burns celebrations, is 8th February. On this date, 70 years ago, Princess Elizabeth acceded to the throne following the death of her father, King George VIth at Sandringham on 6th February, 1952. Despite the formalities of proclaiming the new reign, Princess Elizabeth became Queen the moment her father, the King, died.

Bit by bit our local family are emerging from Covid quarantine. We took one of our grandchildren to and from school today and he will be joined by his elder brother tomorrow. They are not coming to our house, though, until everyone is completely Covid free once more.
