Teasels

Today's the day ..................... to count the birds

Why is it that as soon as you get official and want all the interesting birds to come to your garden in large numbers, they never do?

I had set aside an hour this morning to do the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.  The bird feeders were full to the brim with seeds, peanuts, and fatballs - not that there isn't always plenty to eat in the garden anyway, like these teasel seedheads.  The weather was fine and bright, if a little bit windy.  Everything was in place - apart from the birds.

It was a quiet hour, although I did manage to count a few sparrows and bluetits.  The three robins didn't let me down - and the blackbirds eventually appeared.  Mr Pheasant scraped in by the skin of his teeth, in the last five minutes.  He said he was sorry but he'd been out for Sunday Lunch and it had gone on a bit.

Anyway, it's all done and dusted for this year - and the results submitted.  And, as they say, every little bit helps ..........................
