A snow themed day
I woke up in Portree, having travelled to Skye yesterday in order to attend a funeral at lunchtime today. The rain and wind through which we came had passed over, to be replaced by clearer skies but there was a little snow on the hills, more on the Cuillins (you can just see them in the distance) and ice on the car when I came to charge it.
The drive over to Struan for the funeral was on icy roads and punctainted by the odd snow shower as my first extra photo shows but at sea level there was nothing, and the sun shone most of the time. The little cemetery was very cold and wind swept but bright , as the second extra confirms.
We left just before 3.00 pm and although there was snow on the mountains (my third extra is around Glen Shiel ) the roads were clear. Things deteriorated in Glencoe however (Cathleen took the fourth extra ) and from there until almost Dalmally the driving was at times very tricky . Indeed I began to wonder if we would make it to Glendaruel as the intensity of the showers kept increasing.
However for the last forty miles or so they were mostly of rain except on the highest part of the Leannach and we got home just after 8.30 - a long two days.
But only to be expected after all it is winter , and in Scotland the seasons can all be sampled in a single day !
