Today's the day ....................... for hieroglyphs

I was just about to put this log on the fire, when I noticed these strange but rather wonderful markings.

Will has given me an in-depth explanation of what sort of creature has been responsible for producing them - and why they produce this particular pattern in the wood.  But I don't believe a word of it.

Without doubt, it is a communication from some ancient civilization - a message from their world that they hope will survive to inform the generations to come.  I can definitely see a figure 2 in the top right hand corner.

I'm just going to have to work out what the rest of it means .....................?
