Kingston Canvas

I popped to Kingston around 11am this morning and was amazed at how deserted it was…the Market Place was emptier than during COVID lockdown and John Lewis had hardly any one there. I know there was lots of rain but that had stopped by 10am!

There are many empty shops in Kingston and students from Kingston Art College have been invited to paint things to brighten the place up. This is on the outside of what was previously a very large Clas Ohlson store( and before that it was Woolworths). I often used to go there for bits and pieces and still miss it.

The project is called Kingston Canvas and has been developed to provide a public platform for students while adding vibrant, playful and thought provoking images to the town centre.
This piece is to show the diversity of people and activities that take place in the area.

Some of the other shops that have gone from this little area are..Edinburgh Woollen Mills, Millets, Joules, Rymans, Laura Ashley and  Kath Kidston. I used to go to all of those occasionally.
I noticed a new Sigma Sport electric bike shop is being set up to open soon and a new Megan’s dog-friendly cafe is to open next week in the old Laura Ashley store.
