A Place To Pray for Our World
We worked on Momma’s taxes for a bit after breakfast but Hubby and I had dental check ups this morning. Afterwards, we took a ride to get my blip. I was reading and didn’t realize he headed in the wrong direction until it was too late to turn around. There are still a few Catholic Churches in our county that I have not blipped so we went to Holy Angeles which is near where the Ark and Dove landed. I found the interior shot and this info on their web site. “On March 25, 1634, over 140 European settlers arrived at St. Clements Island, within the jurisdiction of our parish, and Father Andrew White, S.J., celebrated the first recorded Catholic Mass in the original 13 English-speaking colonies for the Solemnity of the Annunciation. Father Andrew White established a mission at White’s Neck within a few miles of Holy Angels Church. In 1770, we became a mission parish of the Sacred Heart Church with Mass celebrated in private homes. On October 2, 1904, the first Mass was held in the new Holy Angels chapel. It was canonically established as a parish on October 2, 1906 – the Feast of the Guardian Angels. This Church building was built in 1962 and dedicated on September 9th of that year”. When the roof of our school collapsed in 2010, the students and faculty moved to the empty Holy Angels school where they remained until our new school was built in 2011. We have a special place in our heart for those folks on the other side of our county who welcomed our children with open arms. We walked around the museum for a bit and then took a leisurely drive on area roads that in 70 years, I had not traveled. We saw many large farms and beautiful waterfront estates. We found more blip possibilities and other new roads so we will return soon. We should take the time to get out and enjoy our surroundings more often. I’ve been told that folks are returning to churches with the fear of a large war and simply to pray for Ukraine. But why must innocent people have to die before the need for prayer and worship is apparent? Be safe. Thanks for the visit, stars and comments. “Waking up to see another day is a blessing. Don’t take it for granted. Make it count and be happy you are alive.” - Helen M. Barry
