Lizard

Another unexpected change of itinerary today as we discovered - fortuitously - that Highway 89 is closed between Page and Bitter Springs because of a landslide. This meant that instead of coming to Page via Kaibab Forest, Jacob's Pool and Marble Canyon (where we should have seen condors) we had take the shorter but less interesting route direct on Highway 89.

We stopped at Coral Pink Sand Dunes state park in the morning, which was pleasant enough, and in the afternoon went on a short hike off the highway to see the weird mushroom-shaped hoodoos (natural rock sculptures) on the south side of Grand Staircase Escalante National Park. This was an interesting walk through rocky desert - an extraordinary landscape especially at the mushrooms.

This little lizard was basking alongside the trail.
