Our local beach is underpinned by slabs of granite. This base covered with sand makes for reliably shaped sandbanks, which in turn make for one of the best beach-break surf spots in the area.

Late summer storms often lead to sand being washed further up the coast exposing the rock. The calmer weather of autumn and winter allow the sand to slowly reaccumulate.

The local surfers say the banks out in the surfing zone are better shaped once the rocks start to show on the beach.
