Muscari and allium
When I remade the compost heap and redesigned the small flower bed between my asparagus beds, I dug up a crate full of muscari bulbs!
After sharing most of them with other allotmenteers, I planted some in the coffee sacks of the pallets that make the new compost heap, some around the pond and scattered the rest all around the plot.
This is an area at the back near the shed/greenhouse where I wanted to have easy blue-purple flowers (i.e. a colour popular with bees) across the growing season: muscari in the late winter, allium in the spring and (hopefully... if the division's worked...) lavender in the summer.
Flowering 1 is working and the 'Purple Sensation' allium have got sturdy stems so Flowering 2 is looking promising so far.
