Museo Nacional de Escultura
Valladolid's most famous art collection is its National Sculpture Museum, housed in the former Colegio de San Gregorio. It contains a large number of religious sculptures, of individuals and of scenes telling stories, like this one depicting an early example of transplant surgery. It also has some colossal processional sculptures, used on religious holidays.
A nearby building holds a huge tableau of life in 18th century Naples, which was then ruled by the Spanish Bourbon kings. 620 pieces, with fantastic detail, are supposed to be a "crèche" but look more like a visitors' guide to Neapolitan society.
On the way there we hurried across the Plaza Mayor in heavy showers. On the way back we stopped at the Mercado de Val for a 2 Euro snack.
