Rye Harbour Nature Reserve

Today we visited the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve which is very near the town of Rye in Sussex.
The weather was fortunately much better than the forecast! There is a lovely new visitor centre( see extra) which was opened in 2021. It has a nice, dog friendly cafe, some nice things in the shop and very interesting displays about the wildlife as well as the history of the area. There are a couple of old pill boxes from WW2 as well as some newish bird hides, and this hut in my blip is like many huts on the shingle beaches in the area, presumably it used to be a functional fisherman’s  hut but looking rather neglected now. We saw several avocets quite close and hundreds of oyster catchers. We also went to the beach at Camber Sands which was windy but lots of people walking there and children playing both on the beach and in the sand dunes. However there were not many cafes open in the area which was surprising.

We have bought some nice  fresh crab and fresh prawns from a local fish remans shop.
