I Put A Spell On You

As you’re not allowed to take pictures of the actual film, I had to settle for a snap of the advertising board outside. As expected, for an opening night, the cinema was pretty packed. We were in one of the smaller screens and that was just about full. Long queues when we arrived and I was amused to see a big group all dressed in Hogwarts robes! Fortunately, having pre-booked tickets on the app, we could just saunter past and take our seats.
The film was good, though it definitely had the feel of being a scene setter for the next film in the series as well as tying up a few loose ends from the previous outing for these characters. Still, there were plenty of the “magical” action set pieces we have come to expect from anything JK Rowling is involved with, and several good lines. The only downside for me was a rather laboured Nazi metaphor - bad guy was in prison, gets out, gains lots of followers, enforces discipline with gangs of leather coated heavies and eventually rises to power through devious means. And upon gaining power, immediately declares war on those who are not “pure blooded”! Most of the action was even set in Germany, in case we missed the point. But no more spoilers from me - if you like that sort of film you will no doubt go and see it and if you don’t you won’t.
We’ve spent most of the day just relaxing here in Chester before heading off to Manchester for this evenings entertainment. A brilliant young blues guitarist called Dan Patlansky, who we saw about four years ago in the same place. The strange thing is that I don’t actually remember booking this gig and have nothing other than the tickets to confirm that I did! Should be a good night.
