Death of a rose

I took this on the way to the early train with the mist still low on the fields.  It was dark when I got back from London last night so I didn’t see the full extent of the huge rose that N cut out.  A small part of it flowered last year so I didn’t think it was all dead but clearly it was.  It was sad seeing so much dead wood during the summer so I am glad that ornamental crab apple has a bit more space.   They say you can’t plant a rose where a rose has died as the ground is rose sick.  Is that right? Maybe a Montana clematis…

Ops review in the office and The Mouse, or a delegation from The Mouse came to tea.
