Mute Swans

The Mute Swans (Cygnus olor) have finally made their appearance in the park. They are considered an invasive species in Michigan, and these aggressive birds tend to crowd out our native Trumpeter Swans. Mute Swans show little fear of people, and they can be very defensive, especially while nesting and raising their young. I do hope to see the adorable little cygnets soon, but I will keep my distance.
