Chili/pepper plants - pricking out basil seedlings
The chili and pepper plants I've grown from seed in my home office since January are now flowering.
There's no such thing as "hardening off" pepper plants, they'll go from the warmth and light of my home office to the nicer warmth and light of the greenhouse in May. Having said that, they have a better chance of pollination in the back garden and the weather's so lovely I thought they would enjoy a change of scenery, in a sunny sheltered spot.
With day temperatures in the 20s in the last few days, I've been thinking about sowing cucurbits and potting on herb seedlings. I love growing basil in old food tins (drilling holes and adding a bit of gravel at the bottom for drainage). I did a couple this morning - Italian tomato and French coffee tins pictured here.
It's great when jobs you haven't done since this time last year happen again... 5 years on and the enthusiasm hasn't waned!
