Amandine's Plot Treize

Last year's potatoes

Something I've learnt from 5 years of growing potatoes is it's nigh on impossible to dig out all your potatoes, which means you get a nice little harvest the following spring.

The funny thing is my newly planted potatoes haven't all come up yet but these one-year-old potatoes have!

Unfortunately, this year isn't an easy one as the old potato bed is now my soft fruit area - which has had a 10cm mulch of cardboard and woodchips since the autumn. It was supposed to be a new no-dig part of the plot but these tatties are too tempting!

Oh well, I'll just have to do another layer of mulch at the end of the growing season! For now, digging out the old tatties has been very satisfying, especially seeing all the worm activity under the mulch that's definitely doing its best protecting the soil and keeping it moist...
