Cucurbit sowings
I'm deliberately sowing cucurbits later than usual this year so it was very exciting to sow cucumbers ('Marketmore', 'Cucumber Lemon' and 'Poona Kheera'), squashes ('Hunter', 'Boston', 'Hokkaido' and 'Blue Hungarian') and pumpkins ('Crown Prince'). Only a couple of seeds of each because, even with a full plot and a greenhouse, there's only so much space for all these hungry plants!
I even sowed melon seeds - a quick-to-mature French cultivar called 'Noir de Carmes' that's well suited to cooler climates. I'm hoping to grow the melon plants in the compost heap, which is warm and full of nutrients.
The greenhouse is now chockablock with seedlings and plants, and there's definitely more green than brown/black. Yay!
