Diary of an Edinburgher

Lunch? Non!

Elizabeth came for Archie today instead of yesterday, when she was at a cake decorating lesson. In fact, she has brought us some of the cakes she decorated, as she had made quite a lot, it seems. Happy to help!

With Archie out for the day, we tried to decide where to go for lunch. I chose a certain French cafe that we’ve been meaning to go to for some time - we’ve popped in for coffees a few times and it’s always buzzing. But it turned out to be not a good decision. Suffice to say, the service was not good, and the meals were not what we ordered (going by the blackboard menu), so we had a quiet word with the manager. He kindly - and properly - didn’t charge us for the mains. The service was just as if we were in Paris. We haven’t been there for years, but it’s the abiding memory of first eating out in Paris, but that was years ago - it must be different nowadays. Or maybe we were just unlucky.

Missed the bus home - even JR was going to get it, rather than walk home in the cold wind. But we did, and it wasn’t too bad. I’m glad we did, as the same lady playing the same instrument as last year was there, probably the same freezing wind too. (EDIT: No - I’ve just checked - last year we had weeks of lovely warm weather in April).

We’re really enjoying ‘The Thief, his Wife and the Canoe.’  You couldn’t make up such a story, but it’s TRUE!
