A Walk on the Wild Side- Stromness Day 10
I defy anyone to sit reading upstairs in the Stromness library, overlooking the harbour and not find that 10 minutes have vanished from their memory.
It’s the peace and silence not to mention the warmth and comfy settee that eventually makes you want to close your eyes and stop reading. Did I succumb? I have no recollection!
I found it strange to be on my own again after having had daughter#1’s company for 5 days and I had a slow start.
However I did a walk this afternoon round the back of Brinkie’s Brae on a quiet single track road with just the peewit cries as company although I didn’t see them.
The road was bordered with daffodils at every passing place and the ditches held primroses and marsh marigolds. I saw just one daisy, several dandelions but no people. Soon there will be a profusion of wild flowers but it’s still too early and too cold - feeling like 6° in the chilly NE wind.
A short shower blew in as I reached home but there some blue sky now and a hint of sunshine. It’s time for a pre prandial glass of the sherry the daughter left behind.
