Fairground

Having told the diabetic nurse a month ago that I would go running more often, I promptly injured myself.
A combination of new shoes, thin socks and a longer than expected walk three weeks ago meant that I ended up with a blister the size of a 50p piece on the back of my ankle.
It’s almost healed now, so I thought I’d test it with a gentle 5K trot along the river. Pleased to say that not only did I not make it any worse but I didn’t suffer any of the usual aches and pains I get when I’ve not been out for a run for a few weeks. I must be getting better at this fitness lark!
My route took me past the Little Roodee car park, which has been home to a Covid testing centre for the past couple of years. Well, that’s all gone and the fair is back for (I think) the first time since 2019. Which must mean it’s Chester Races week as the fair always turns up then. A highlight of my childhood - and young adult! - years, a night out at the fair was something to look forward to, though I think we’ve only been once in the last thirty years.
I always think a fairground looks a very dismal place on an overcast morning with no one around. It will be a very different picture this evening, I’m sure, with people out enjoying the Bank Holiday.
But we won’t see it as we’re off to Liverpool to see Blondie in concert. A far more appealing prospect for an evening’s entertainment!
