First For Two Years

Army v Navy Day 2022, it’s been two years coming and I have been looking forward to it.
Up earlyish for an all you can eat breakfast at the hotel, tucked in as it was likely to be the only ‘real’ meal of the day.
1030 train to Twickenham, my brother Gary, nephews Paul & George, niece Collette with partner Jack and family friend Luke were already onboard. Numbers were down this year with some family working.
1130 at the Albany to meet friends and ex service mates, packed with people and the beer flowed.
1330 at the ground, brilliant seats, front row, centre of the east stand, sat in the sunshine.
Great match, could have gone either way, the Navy played the rugby and the score flattered the Army. A few beers and a pizza between the Mens and Ladies matches. The Army women completely outclassed the Navy women, not a good advert for the women’s game.
Back to the Albany for a few more beers to allow the crowd on the station to dissipate before heading back to Woking where we separated again.

Really enjoyed spending the day with my brother.

A fruitless search for a curry or Chinese meant a McDonalds for three tired and hungry people before heading to the hotel and bed at midnight.

It’s always a great day, main photo is of the group, early on, before the beer effect became apparent.

Extras;
Our ‘Memorial Stone’, Ron, (My Dad), Mick, (Me), Gary, (My Brother), it remains undamaged despite others around it showing signs of age and damage.
My brother Gary, an ex Paratrooper, and I on the train home.
The mens match.
