That Two-Tone Friday Night Feeling
Today's image is of my brother celebrating the fact that it was Friday evening and he had finished work for the week. I always look forward to picking him up from the station on a Friday after work as the second he opens the car door and pops his head inside I know he's going to have a huge smile on his face. He can finally relax and just forget about work. A pint on the way home and a few glasses of wine when we get in definitely adds to that Friday night feeling!
In this shot my brother is wearing his favourite t-shirt which celebrates Two-Tone - a genre of British music of the lates 70's and early 80's that fused traditional ska music with elements of punk rock and new wave music. It was music that we grew up to as teenagers and have loved ever since.
The name actually derives from 2 Tone records, a record label formed in 1979 by Jerry Dammers of The Specials, and references a desire to transcend and defuse racial tension in Thatcher-era Britain - with many two-tone groups, such as The Specials (their song Ghost Town is an all time classic), The Selecter and The Beat featuring a mixture of black, white and multi-racial members.
