Assembling
This year I am attending the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland as a commissioner representing our congregation.
I can’t recall when I was most recently in the Assembly Hall on the Mound (see extra) but I do know my graduation ceremony was there in 1977.
As a first time Commissioner there was a lot of procedure to come to terms with and the Assembly was convening for the first time in a hybrid format. Despite some excellent planning and training there were still some bumps to be overcome.
Still, it is now well underway, if running a bit behind schedule. But it is an interesting opportunity to meet up with others and get a sense of the issues and challenges facing congregations, both rural and urban, across Scotland. And the votes help shape what the church’s priorities and focus are in the year ahead.
