Leopard's bane

Today's the day ....................... to go down in the woods

These woods start off the year with a carpet of snowdrops - soon followed by wild garlic and bluebells.  But, this time of the year, if you go down there, you will get a big surprise - because it turns yellow..

It's the most amazing sight - hundreds upon hundreds of what I think is Doronicum, commonly known as leopard's bane.  I've only ever seen it growing in a garden before, so maybe it is an garden escape - but if it was, it must have happened a long time ago for there to be so many.  I did ask a local whether it had ever been someone's garden, but she didn't think it had.

It's a bit of a mystery - but a beautiful sight nevertheless ...................
