Scafell & Scafell Pike

Please view large on black to get the scale.

An early start saw us parked up at Eskdale before 9am. Walked through the seemingly endless boggy valley to the gully between Scafell & Scafell Pike, where we climbed up by the waterfall and then up the Foxes Tarn route - a steep gully scramble that I think was more technical than Jacks Rake. Eventually reaching the summit of Scafell. Looking over to the summit of Scafell Pike (extra) it was rammed with walkers. It's this time of year the "three peakers" are out. Doing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowdon in a day, busloads arriving and queues of people swarming up the big three.

Scafell was a much quieter affair, with just Deb & I on top for most of the time we were there. Then we dropped down to Slightside adding another two to our second tally. The long walk back to the car was tiring, and knees were suffering when we finally got there.  Only 11 miles, but so technical it felt much further!

A visit to the Boot inn took away all the aches - Steak Pie & Chips and a pint was all that was needed!

5 to go!

Scafell: 208/214
Slight Side: 209/214
